Prayer of Confession from Sept. 15, 2013

Merciful Savior,

Forgive us as we confess…

We have been ungrateful recipients of the vast treasure

              that is Your Holy Scripture.

We have heard Your Word

              but not obeyed it,

Believed the right things

              but not lived them,

Claimed to know You

              but not followed the life You modeled,

Called to trust You,

              we have not loosened the grip of control,

Invited to abide,

              we have chased our own pursuits,

Given the Sabbath for rest,

              we have ignored it.

Lord, have mercy and forgive us.

Bring us to new life

              in and through Your Son, Our Lord and Savior.

                                                                                     Amen.
